Are Your Brakes Showing These Symptoms?

Brake problems can develop gradually, which means riders sometimes don't notice how much braking performance they've lost. If something feels, sounds or looks different, it's worth having your brakes inspected.

  • Weak Braking

Your bike isn't stopping as confidently as it should.

    Poor stopping power
    Brakes feel weaker than usual
Lever pulls too close to the handlebar
    Braking takes more effort
Front or rear brake isn't working properly

  • Noisy or Rubbing Brakes

Your brakes are making themselves heard.

    Squealing when braking
    Disc brake rubbing
    Scraping or grinding noises
    Brake rotor constantly rubbing
Noise that gets worse when braking

  • Something Doesn't Feel Right

Changes in brake feel can indicate servicing is required.

    Brake lever feels spongy
    Lever feel has suddenly changed
    Bike pulls when braking
    Brake pads appear worn

Find the Right Service for My Bike

Whether your bike needs a quick tune-up or a complete performance overhaul, we've designed our servicing options to suit every rider and every budget. If you're unsure which service is right, don't worry—we'll assess your bike and recommend the best option.

Why Aren't My Bike Brakes Working Properly?

Different braking systems develop different problems, but most brake issues can be traced back to a few common causes.

Common Causes Include:

Worn Brake Pads

Brake pads are consumable components. As they wear, braking performance can decrease and continuing to ride on excessively worn pads can damage other components.

Contaminated Pads or Rotors

Oil, lubricant and other contaminants can significantly reduce disc brake performance and are a common cause of noisy or squealing brakes.

Brake Adjustment & Alignment

Brake calipers, pads, cables and rotors need to be correctly positioned. Small alignment changes can cause rubbing, uneven braking or reduced performance.

Hydraulic or Cable Issues

Hydraulic systems can develop poor lever feel or require bleeding, while mechanical brakes can suffer from worn, stretched or contaminated cables and housing.

Good brake servicing starts with identifying why braking performance has changed. We'll inspect the system before recommending adjustment, servicing or replacement parts.

Is my bike even worth fixing?

We'll let you know. If replacing it is the better option, we can also discuss trade-in, consignment or help you find a quality pre-loved bike.

Repair it. Trade it. Sell it. Upgrade it. We'll help you choose the option that's right for you.
