Lifetime Free Basic Bike Servicing Policy

At The Bicycle Exchange, it’s important to us that your bike is running perfectly — improving safety, reliability, and rider enjoyment. That’s why every bike we sell includes Lifetime Free Basic Bike Servicing.

1. What This Policy Covers

This policy explains what is included in our Lifetime Free Basic Bike Servicing, how bookings work, what is excluded, and how optional pickup and drop-off may be arranged.

2. Eligibility (All Bike Types)

  • Applies to all bikes sold by The Bicycle Exchange (new and second-hand).
  • Applies to all bike types, including road, mountain, hybrid, commuter, kids, cargo and e-bikes.
  • Valid for the life of the bike.
  • Transferable to a new owner at no charge (the service entitlement follows the bike).

Location: Lifetime Free Basic Servicing is provided at The Bicycle Exchange workshop location only (Williamstown, VIC). It is not redeemable at third-party, partner, or independent bicycle workshops or other outlets.

3. What’s Included (Free Basic Service)

Each free basic service includes up to 30 minutes of workshop labour and may include:

  • Gear adjustment
  • Brake adjustment
  • Bolt and fastener safety check
  • Tyre pressure check
  • Visual safety inspection
  • External lubrication where required

4. What’s Not Included

Lifetime Free Basic Servicing does not include parts, consumables, or labour beyond the 30-minute allowance. Examples include:

  • Replacement of parts or components
  • Consumables (including but not limited to): chains, brake pads, cables/housing, tyres/tubes, sealant, bearings
  • Wheel truing beyond minor adjustment
  • Suspension servicing
  • E-bike diagnostics, firmware updates, or electrical repairs
  • Cleaning or detailing
  • Crash damage, misuse, neglect, or unauthorised modifications
  • Repairs requiring additional labour beyond 30 minutes

If additional work or parts are required, we will discuss options and pricing with you before proceeding.

5. Service Frequency & Reminders

  • Services are available as often as reasonably required.
  • We generally recommend a check-up approximately every 4 months, depending on usage.
  • We may send reminders to help you stay on schedule.

6. Booking Requirements

  • All Lifetime Free Basic Services must be booked in advance.
  • Services are subject to workshop availability.
  • Walk-ins cannot be guaranteed.

7. Transferability (Caring for the Bike for Life)

Lifetime Free Basic Servicing is transferable to a new owner at no charge. To help us provide accurate support, the new owner may be asked to provide bike details and proof of original purchase (where available).

8. Optional Pickup & Drop-Off

If you can’t get the bike to us, pickup and drop-off may be available as an optional convenience service.

  • Must be arranged in advance
  • Fees may apply
  • Availability depends on location, timing and capacity

Pickup and drop-off is not included as part of Lifetime Free Basic Servicing.

9. Relationship to Warranty & Australian Consumer Law

This Service Policy operates alongside your rights under the Australian Consumer Law and any applicable warranties or assurances. It does not limit or replace those rights.

Lifetime Free Basic Servicing is a preventative maintenance benefit. Warranty and fault claims are handled separately in accordance with our Warranty & Claims Policy and the Australian Consumer Law.

Is lifetime free servicing really included on every bike?

Yes. Every bike sold by The Bicycle Exchange includes Lifetime Free Basic Servicing, regardless of age or price, subject to the inclusions/exclusions in this policy.

Where can I redeem lifetime free servicing?

Lifetime Free Basic Servicing is provided at The Bicycle Exchange workshop location only (Williamstown, VIC). It is not redeemable at other outlets or third-party workshops.

Does the free service include parts?

No. The free service covers up to 30 minutes of workshop labour for basic adjustments and checks. Parts and consumables are not included.
